Treatment Approaches:
Treatments are based on Neuromuscular and Myofascial Trigger Point therapies, however, multiple modalities and approaches are incorporated into a treatment to best suit the therapeutic needs of the client.
What is Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy?
- A non-invasive and comprehensive program for the treatment of acute and chronic pain.
- Guided by the research and treatment protocol of Janet Travell MD (1901-1997).
- The main feature of myofascial pain is the presence of trigger points in muscle tissue.
What is Myofascial Pain?
Hyperirritable nodules or contractures located within a taught band of muscle.
- Elicits pain when pressed and usually refers pain upon direct compression.
- Trigger points may be “Active” or “Latent”
What are the symptoms caused by Myofascial Trigger Points?
- Aching or burning pain
- Numbness or tingling
- Weakness/tightness
- Decreased range of motion/muscle shortening
How do we get Trigger Points?
- Overuse, misuse or repetitive use of muscles, poor posture, body mechanics, anatomical conditions
- Accidents, falls, sports injuries, occupational stressors, disease
- Other perpetuating factors: impaired sleep, stress, prolonged immobility, nutritional and systemic issues
